Year 1 pupils learn spellings through daily phonic lessons and apply these within our writing and topic lessons throughout the week.
Most Year 2 pupils will begin to learn different spelling patterns and techniques through the discrete spelling lessons that they will apply in writing and topic lessons. Some year 2 children will need to continue with the phonics programme, until they have reached the expected level and will then move onto the spelling programme. By the end of year 1 most children should be able to spell the following Common Exception Words:

We do not set homework in year 1 or year 2 but those parents and children that would like something to do at home can practice the spellings listed above (or read for 15 minutes every day or practice number bonds to 10 or times tables daily).
